Stop over at Tripoli

21 02 2005

A short update to speak about Tripoli airport where I spent 2 long hours. It was the first time I visit Libya. The first thing I noticed is that the airport, which wasn't really new but at least clean, wasn't really respecting international standards since all the signs and texts were written in Arabic and all the announcements were in Arabic too (sometimes in French also). I thing that I was the unique Arabic person in the plane who was going to Bamako and the announcement about the check in for the departure was made in Arabic. Also, the checking was made manually without giving any seat numbers with just a stamp (you guess in which language) on the back of the ticket.

I'm sure that Libya authorities are aware of this lack of internationalization but they have to make an effort quickly if they want to make Tripoli a new "Carrefour" for Europe/Africa airlines.

I'll have the chance to check this out after 4 months.

I know that nobody can stop learning but on my case I want to make a break, and what a break!
